My name is Nicole, and I’ve struggled with weight issues for most of my life.. In high school, I turned to bulimia as a way to control my weight. It was a dark time in my life, but my family got me the help I needed, and I was able to move on.
I went to Arizona State University (Go Sun Devils!), and a friend introduced me to some pills she got in Mexico that were like speed. I had energy to burn, and I was putting in 2-3 hours each night at the gym! As a result, I lost more than 30lbs.. But I couldn’t take these pills forever – I could FEEL my heart racing, and if I kept it up I was bound to have a heart attack!
For the next 10 years, my weight constantly fluctuated as I tried the “latest and greatest” diet fads. The Atkins Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Body For Life, etc. I even joined Curves for a few months. Did they work? Sure, to some degree.. But none were permanent solutions to my weight problem.
In 2006, my doctor diagnosed me with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). One of the symptoms of PCOS is “weight gain or obesity, usually carrying extra weight around the waist.” This discovery gave me hope that I’d finally be able to overcome the weight issues that have been plaguing me for the greater part of my adult life.
I’ve created this blog to share my weight-loss journey with the world, and hopefully inspire other people in my situation to do the same.
